Vietnam, Cambodia localities sign new cooperation agreement

Vietnam’s Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap and Cambodia’s northwestern province of Banteay Meanchey have inked an agreement on bilateral cooperation for the 2016-2020 period.

Dong Thap (VNA) – Vietnam’s MekongDelta province of Dong Thap and Cambodia’s northwestern province of BanteayMeanchey have inked an agreement on bilateral cooperation for the 2016-2020period.

The two sides were unanimous to maintainexchange activities and promote bilateral trade, services and tourism as wellas encourage investment in agriculture and farm produce consumption, whilefacilitating the exchange of each other’s students and officials.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Dong Thap onDecember 21, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen ThanhHung, said with the motto of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, andcomprehensive, sustainable, long-term cooperation”, Dong Thap has paidattention to building relations with international partners, including BanteayMeanchey – which boasts large potential for agricultural development.

The two sides signed their first cooperation agreementin 2011 for the period of 2011-2015, in the spirit of friendship, solidarityand mutual understanding for the sake of the two peoples, he noted.

The new deal for 2016-2020 will allow the twolocalities’ departments and businesses to spur socio-economic growth andtighten solidarity.

Suon Bovor, Governor of Banteay Meancheyprovince, recognised the assistance of Dong Thap over the past time and hoped thetwo sides will step up cooperative ties and forge connectivity among businesses.

Dong Thap and Banteay Meanchey actively sharedexperience and know-how in culture, social affairs, trade, and agriculturebetween 2011 and 2015.

After the serious flood in 2013, Dong Thap providedrice seeds to Vietnamese and Cambodian residents and military in BanteayMeanchey and doled out 5 billion VND for the Cambodian province to build theheadquarters of its military command./.
