This is the ninth monument completed under a project to build and upgrade 17Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments in Cambodia, with funds provided by theVietnamese Ministry of National Defence, aiming to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 2017.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Secretaryof State at the Cambodian Ministry of Cults and Religions Nhem Valy thanked theVietnamese Party, State, army and people for their support to the Cambodianpeople during their struggle against the Pol Pot genocidal regime.
Nhem Valy, who is also Secretary General of the National Council of the SolidarityFront for Development of Cambodian Motherland, said the monument is not only dedicatedto Cambodians and Vietnamese volunteers who laid down their lives forCambodia’s liberation, but also considered as an everlasting symbol of thetime-honoured solidarity and friendship between the two countries.
VietnameseMilitary Attaché in Cambodia Colonel Nguyen Anh Dung expressed his belief thatthe monument will witness the strong development of Kok Kong in the time aheadas well as the traditional friendship, an invaluable asset shared by the twonations and armies.-VNA
