During the event, which wasconcluded in the central city of Da Nang on August 27, the countryalso emphasised the importance of respecting international law, the 1982United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and theDeclaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).
Vietnam also pointed to the need for parties to practicerestraint and refrain from actions that complicate the situation.
The country also contributed to discussions on enhanced maritimepartnerships, particularly regarding disaster relief and humanitarianrelief for fishermen; scientific research; and protection of marineecosystems; as well as non-traditional security threats, such asinternational crime, piracy and human trafficking.
During the AMF-5, the ten ASEAN member countries reviewed their maritimecooperation and the implementation of previously developed initiatives,as well as devising strategies for boosting the regional coordinationof humanitarian aid and disaster responses.
Over thepast five years, AMF has set up a complex interactive mechanism for itsmember countries, drawing the attention of ASEAN’s partners,representatives said.
They touched upon measures formanaging and protecting marine ecosystems and biodiversity, as well asways to beef up cooperation on the use fisheries resources.
Participants also discussed the recent developments in the EastSea, highlighting the need for observing UNCLOS 1982 and regionalcommitments, including DOC.
The third Expanded ASEANMaritime Forum will take place on August 28, during which the ASEANmember countries will hold dialogues with eight partners, includingChina .
