Vietnam backs world efforts to fight terrorism

Vietnam will support the international community’s efforts to counter terrorism and extremism on the basis of respecting the UN Charter and international law.

Moscow (VNA) – Vietnam will continue its effortsto expand cooperation with other countries and support the internationalcommunity’s efforts to counter terrorism and extremism on the basis ofrespecting the UN Charter and international law.

Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Van Son made thestatement at the 16th Meeting of Heads of Special Services, Security Agencies andLaw Enforcement Organisations held in Russia’s Krasnodar city on October 4-5.

Terrorism is developing more complicatedly, especially the rapid growth of science-technology, espeically information technology and the Internet, causing seriousconsequences for many nations and territories.

Vietnam has encouraged the involvement of the entire peoplein the combat against terrorism, while building a legal framework,strengthening measures to detect and prevent terrorism and extremismactivities, and coordinating with other countries and international organisationsin this fierce fight, Son said.

To increase the efficiency of the work, the Vietnameseofficial proposed intensifying cooperation between special services and lawenforcement agencies to control and prevent funds or websites related toterrorism, and working with other countries in investigating terrorism cases.

Speaking at the event, Russia's Federal Security ServiceChief Alexander Bortnikov said that the international terrorist organisation Islamic State planned to create another worldwide terrorist network, as theyhad practically suffered defeat in building a caliphate in the territory ofSyria and Iraq.

Therefore, all nations worldwide should intensifycooperation to deal with the main threat of the era, particularly in thecontext that terrorists are using information technology as an efficient toolin conducting their crimes, he added.

The meeting attracted the participation of 116 delegationsfrom 74 nations and international organisations.

This year’s theme focused on the perfection of the nationalcounter-terrorism system in Russia and the sharing of countries’ experience infighting terrorists as well as discussions on measures to ensure security forinternational activities.-VNA
