Sochi (VNA) – Some 150 members of Vietnam’s HoChi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) Central Committee led by its firstSecretary Le Quoc Phong attended the 19th World Festival of Youth and Studentsthat officially opened in Sochi, Russia, on October 15.
The festival, themed “For peace, solidarity and socialjustice, we struggle against imperialism – Honouring our past, we build thefuture”, is organised by the World Federation of Democratic Youths.
Art performances featuring ecosystem protection, poverty andhunger combating and education development were held during the event.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Russian President VladimirPutin highlighted the outstanding contribution youths make to society, andcalled on young people to build their own future and make the world a betterplace.
The festival welcomed more than 20,000 youths from about 180countries. Up to 5,000 volunteers, including 314 foreign ones includingVietnamese were mobilised to support delegates.
Vietnamese delegates will join most of the key activities inthe festival from October 12-22, including workshops, seminars, exhibition,bilateral meetings, and musical exchanges.
According to the HCYU, the festival is expected to present anopportunity for Vietnam to strengthen ties with youth organisations andpartners in Russia, contributing to Vietnam – Russia relations.-VNA
