Vietnam attends Inter-Parliamentary Union seminar in China

Beijing (VNA) – Chairman of the Culture, Education, Youth andChildren Committee of the National Assembly Phan Thanh Binh and a Vietnamesedelegation are attending the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)’s InterregionalSeminar in Beijing, China to promote the implementation of sustainabledevelopment goals (SDGs).

The three-day seminar, opened on September 5 under the theme “ParliamentaryCapacity Building and the Further Implementation of the Sustainable DevelopmentGoals”, is intended to foster interregional exchanges on SDGs implementationbetween Asian and African parliaments.

Measures to address climate change will be on the table while experience willbe exchanged among the lawmakers with the focus on the significance ofindustrial and agricultural modernisation to poverty reduction.

The Vietnamese delegation will participate in discussions on the agenda. Theywill also have bilateral meetings with the host-Chinese delegation, IPUSecretariat officials and the Lao delegation.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted in September, 2015. TheIPU and its members have proactively carried out the agenda by organising aline-up of seminars.
The Beijing seminar is held following the regional seminar on Achieving theSustainable Development Goals for the Parliaments in the Asia-Pacific Region thattook place in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City from May 11-12.-VNA
