Vietnam, Armenia agree to bolster ties

Vietnam always attaches importance to maintaining and developing ties with Armenia.
Vietnam always attaches importance to maintaining, consolidating anddeveloping ties with traditional friends, including Armenia in itsdiplomatic policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification andmultilateralisation.

President Truong Tan Sang made the statement at talks with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in Hanoi on June 8.

Sang hailed President Sargsyan’s visit as an important milestone instrengthening friendship and traditional cooperation between the twocountries, especially at a time when Vietnam and Armenia arepreparing activities to celebrate the 20 th anniversary of diplomaticties.

President Sargsyan expressed his delight atvisiting Vietnam for the first time. He praised achievements made byVietnam during the renewal period, which have raised the country’sposition and prestige in the region and the world.

The two sides agreed to further increase the exchanges of delegations atall levels, particularly the high-ranking, and boost collaborationbetween the two countries’ ministries and departments, towards laying asolid foundation for expanding bilateral economic, trade and investmentties, among others.

Regarding economic and tradecooperation, they agreed on the need to sign agreements to create thelegal framework. An Inter-governmental Committee for economic-trade andscience - technology cooperation should be established as early aspossible, and trade promotion and contacts increased, they said.

The leaders also stressed the need to resume cooperation in educationand training, and increase cultural exchanges between the two peoples inthe new period.

Sang thanked Armenia forsupporting Vietnam in running for membership of the United NationsHuman Rights Council for the 2014 – 2016 tenure. He said he believes thetwo countries will continue supporting and closely working with eachother at multilateral forums.

President Sang andhis Armenia counterpart witnessed the signing of agreements oncooperation in economics, trade and science-technology, and visa waiverfor official and diplomatic passport holders, and cooperation betweenthe two foreign ministries.

Following the talks, thetwo leaders adopted a Joint Statement on the outcomes of PresidentSargsyan’s visit to Vietnam , which says the two sides acknowledgedeach other’s full market economy status.

The twosides will also negotiate the signing of agreements on plant and animalquarantine, and on mutual recognition of each other’s qualitycertification of products, culture, sports and customs to supportbilateral trade in the coming time.-VNA
