Algiers (VNA) – A delegation of the National Assembly’s Committee for External Relations visited Algeria from March 16-19 to cement relations between the two countries’ parliaments.

The delegation led by Vice Chairman Ngo Duc Manh had meetings with President of the Algeria-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group Hocim Maaloum and President of Foreign Affairs Committee of the Algerian People’s National Assembly Belmdedah Nour-Eddine.

They also paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Speaker of the Algerian People’s National Assembly Ghamia Idalia.

At the meetings, the Algerian side briefed the guests on the new points in the country’s revised constitution adopted by the Algerian parliament in February. These included enhancing women’s presence in the parliament and public agencies and improving role of legislative bodies.

They affirmed Algeria’s external policy of supporting the settlement of any dispute based on peaceful negotiation, respect for nations’ territorial integrity and protesting against violation, terrorism and racial discrimination.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese delegation informed their host on Vietnam’s achievements after three decades of Renewal Process (Doi Moi) and the outcomes of the 12th National Party Congress early this year.

The two sides agreed to ramp up high-level parliamentary delegation exchange as well as experience sharing in law making. They also planned to boost bilateral cooperation in energy, agriculture, oil and petroleum, tourism and transportation.-VNA
