The Mekong Deltaregion, the country’s largest rice granary, annually contributes morethan 50 percent of the total domestic yield and 92 percent of thenational rice export volume.
The industry emits a large amount of methane, which is known for its warming effect.
According to Phan Huy Thong, Head of the National AgriculturalExtension Centre, local farmers have long run small-scale businesseswith higher production cost and major negative environmental impacts.
