Vietnam has made practical contributions such aspresiding over the compilation and negotiations to help the council passResolution 1889 on women, peace and security, as well as launching aninitiative to consult with other UN members to build the council’s annualreport in a more comprehensive and pragmatic manner.
According to Trung, right after concluding the2008-2009 tenure, Vietnam continued running for the post of a non-permanentmember of the council for the 2020-2021 tenure.
Over the past 30 years of reforms, the role andposition of Vietnam in the international arena have been raised. In the fieldof peace and international security, Vietnam has made practical contributions andtaken an active part in multilateral mechanisms on disarmament andnon-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
