The Vietnam delegation, led by Ambassador and Head of Vietnam’sPermanent Mission to the UN Nguyen Trung Thanh, actively participated inand contributed to discussions of the United Nations Human RightsCouncil’s 29th session, which wrapped up in Geneva, Switzerland on July3.
During the three-week session, 25resolutions and a Presidential Statement were approved, involvingnumerous issues that draw public concerns and directly affect the fullenjoyment of fundamental rights, such as terrorism, climate change,corruption, and protection of vulnerable groups.
Ambassador Thanh and other Vietnamese officials delivered speeches ondifferent issues at official discussions, showing the country’s point ofview, or on behalf of ASEAN as a Co-Coordinator of the group to theCouncil in 2015.
They stressed the need for thecouncil to exert more efforts to boost dialogue and constructivecooperation, and seek fair and appropriate solutions to differences.
At the session, Vietnam co-sponsored eightresolutions, including those relating to climate change, social forumand prevention of discrimination against women.
The next session is scheduled to take place in September.-VNA
