Hanoi (VNA) – VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Company and the US’s Boeing Commercial Airplanes on May 23 signed a deal worth 11.3 billion USD for 100 737 MAX 200 airplanes, the largest ever single commercial airplane purchase in Vietnam’s aviation history.

Visiting US Presidents Bazack Obama and President Tran Dai Quang witnessed the signing of the agreement.

“Incorporating the latest design and technology features, the highly efficient 737 MAX will provide Vietjet’s growing network with market-leading economics, a superior passenger experience and contribute significantly to their future success”, Boeing President and CEO Ray Conner shared at the event.

Vietjet President and CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao voiced that her firm’s investment in a fleet of B737 Max 200 will accommodate Vietjet’s strategy to expand international route network in the coming time, including long haul flights.

Through this agreement, Vietjet will contribute increasing bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and the US, as well as contributes to the integration and development of the aviation industry of the country, Thao added.

The airplanes in this purchase will be delivered to Vietjet from 2019 until 2023 for supporting the firm in continuously extending its domestic flight network and those in the region.

This agreement is expected to help Vietjet to increase its fleet to more than 200 aircraft in the end 2023 with the most modern and advanced technology in the world.

At the signing ceremony, representatives from Vietjet and Pratt & Whitney Co. of United Technologies Corp of the US also inked a 3.04-billion-USD contract for supply of aircraft engines PurePower Geared Turbofan as well as technical and maintenance service for the fleet of A320NEO and A321NEO.-VNA
