Vietjet Air reports robust growth in revenue

HCM City (VNA)- Vietjet Air announced its business results in the second quarter of 2018 withthe robust growth in core business activities, including air transport andancillary revenue.

Air transport revenuein the second quarter reached 8,588 billion VND (378.3 million USD) compared to5,648 billion VND (248.8 million USD) in the same period of 2017 (an increaseof 52.05 percent). Profit before tax of air transport in the second quarterreached over 950 billion VND (41.8 million USD) compared to 661 billion VND (29.1million USD) in the same period last year (an increase of 43,7 percent). Inwhich the proportion of ancillary revenue was up to 24 percent, approximately 16USD per passenger, the highest ever.

Accumulated airtransport revenue in the first six months of 2018 reached 16,478 billion VND(726 million USD), an increase of 52.6 percent. Air transport profit stood at 1,686billion (74.3 million USD), an increase of 53.4 percent over the same period of2017, equivalent to 56.2 percent of the 2018 plan.

In the second quarterof 2018, Vietjet Air carried over 5.8 million passengers, an increase of 28percent, of whom 4.2 million were domestic passengers, up 12.7 percent, andmore than 1.6 million international passengers, up 96 percent over the sameperiod of 2017.

Thanks to the stronggrowth of fleet, including the modern Airbus A321 Neo and expansion of longerroutes to Northeast Asia, international flights promoted the sales of meals,souvenirs, baggage etc. in flights, the ancillary revenue in the first half of2018 reached 3,807 billion VND (167.7 million USD), a 50 percent increase overthe first half of 2017.

In the first six monthsof 2018, Vietjet Air continued to lead the domestic passenger traffic and bethe best operating flight growth airline with 59,944flights, up nearly 22 percent. The on-time performance stood at 83 percent.

Total revenue of the firstsix months 2018 stood at 21,197 billion VND (933.8 million USD), an 29 percentincrease year on year. Profit before tax of Vietjet Air in the first half ofthis year reached 2,378 billion VND (104.7 million USD), up 26 percent.

According to its plan,in 2018, Vietjet Air will receive 17 Airbus aircraft. In the first six months,Vietjet Air received 4 Airbus A321 aircraft. In the second half of the year,Vietjet Air will receive 13 aircraft. As a result, in the last six months ofthe year, Vietjet Air will record additional revenue from this aircraftdelivery.

In the middle of July,Vietjet Air signed agreements to purchase 100 Boeing 737MAX aircraft worth 12.7billion USD and 50 Airbus A321 NEO worth 7 billion USD, assuring that by 2025the company’s new fleet will be synchronized, well-equipped and fuel efficient,serve for the plan to establish aviation alliance in the region and in theinternational market.

Started operating newmodern aircraft which could save up to 15 percent of fuel costs, efficientmanagement program as well as international flight network expansion, Vietjet Aircontinued to boost the foreign currency ticket sales, increase the proportionof ancillary revenue and decrease fuel cost because the fuel price in foreigncountries is lower than in domestic market by around 30 percent due to taxes, fees.

In addition to manageflexibly the load factor of domestic routes in the low season, focus on the internationalroutes and wet-leasing abroad, help increase efficiency, boost the foreignexchange earnings, stabilize the revenue.
