Vedan to pay Dong Nai farmers for losses

Vedan Vietnam on Sept. 10 signed an agreement to pay compensation of 120 billion VND (6.2 million USD) to farmers in Dong Nai province for losses it caused by polluting the Thi Vai River.

The Taiwanese MSG maker also agreed to pay the People's Committees ofNhon Trach and Long Thanh districts, where the affected farmers live,500 million VND (25,640 USD) each for expenses involved in estimatingthe losses.

It will pay half of the amount tofarmers within a week and the rest on January 14 next year. Meanwhile,it will furnish a bank guarantee for the remaining amount to farmersrepresentatives' within a week from Sept. 10./.

The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu on October 21 signed a cooperation agreement with Uiseong county, Gyeongsangbuk-do province of the Republic of Korea (RoK) on sending local labourers to the RoK to work seasonally under the form of locality-to-locality collaboration between the two countries in the 2023 - 2027 period.

Tien Giang strives to reduce poverty rate to 0.87% this year
