Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - The United States has removed 11 Thai products from its Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) programme for 2018 effective from November 1.

Director-General of the Department of Foreign Trade, Adul Chotenisakorn says the Thai products removed by the US government from the GSP program include fresh orchids, fresh durian, dried papaya, dried tamarind, seasonal corn, preserved fruit/nuts, processed papaya, floor planks, printers, washing machines and tripods. The combined value of the products is 46 million USD or 1.1 percent of the total value of Thai products with GSP.

Eleven Thai products lost the GSP status, since their market share and value exceeded 50 percent and 180 million USD per year respectively. The department said The GSP removal reflected Thailand’s competitiveness in the U.S. market.

However, the director said the Thai government can request the return of the GSP during next year’s review. - NNT/VNA
