Hanoi (VNA) – US President Barack Obama left Ho Chi Minh City on May 25, concluding his successful visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang.

During his three-day stay in the country, the US President held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Tran Dai Quang, where they witnessed the signing of important cooperation agreements between the two countries.

He also paid a courtesy visit to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, met with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; visited late President Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House and delivered a speech to numerous representatives of Vietnam’s ministries, agencies and students.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the President had an exchange with young Vietnamese entrepreneurs and spoke to 800 young leaders, who are members of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative, which he launched in 2013.

The two sides issued a Joint Statement, under which they noted with satisfaction the rapid, substantive, and comprehensive growth of bilateral relations over the past years, guided by the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership of 2013 and the Joint Vision Statement issued during the historic visit to the US by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in July 2015.

The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to observe the UN Charter and respect international law, as well as each other’s political systems, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

They consented to coordinate with each other to step up political, diplomatic, economic, national defence and security, and people-to-people ties; promote human rights and judicial reform, address regional and global challenges and deepen their long-term partnership.

Both sides agreed to further enhance the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership, making it deeper, more substantive, and more effective in order to better serve the interests of the two peoples, for peace, stability, and cooperation in the region and the world.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh held talks with US Secretary of State John Kerry.
