Hanoi (VNA) – Several US steel producers recently submitted an anti-dumping and countervailing petition to the US Department of Commerce (DOC) concerning cold-rolled steel imported from Vietnam, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The producers asked the DOC to launch an investigation and delay the payment for the shipments of cold-rolled steel from Vietnam. They also suggested that deposits for the import should equal to anti-dumping and countervailing duties on Chinese imports.
The DOC is expected to make a decision on November 10 on whether to launch an investigation and issue the final decision within the next 300 days.
Earlier on August 24, 2015, the US launched an anti-dumping and countervailing investigation against cold-rolled steel originated from China, Brazil, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, Russia and the UK.
On May 24, 2016, the US imposed 199.76 percent anti-dumping tax and 256.44 percent countervailing duty on cold-rolled steel from China.
Following the decision, imports from China dropped significantly but those from Vietnam surged.-VNA
