Hanoi (VNA) –Although the 2017 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices of the USDepartment of State recognised Vietnam’s achievements in protecting human rights,it still made some assessments that are not objective and do not reflectcorrectly the actual situation in the country.
Spokeswoman of the Vietnamese Ministry ofForeign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang made the remarks on May 4 in response toreporters’ question about Vietnam’s reaction to the 2017 Country Reports onHuman Rights Practices of the US Department of State.
Hang underlined Vietnam’s consistent policy ofensuring and promoting human rights in conformity with international treatieson human rights to which Vietnam is a party.
The country’s efforts and achievements in thisfield have been recognised and highly evaluated by the international community,she added.
“Like with other countries, Vietnam is ready todiscuss with the US within the existing frameworks on issues of mutual concernin the frank, open and mutual respect spirit. Vietnam considers this as aneffective method to enhance mutual understanding and solve the issues in whichthe two sides still have differences,” the spokeswoman stressed.-VNA
