US-funded facility improves training for Vietnam’s peacekeeping forces

The US government handed over to Vietnam a training facility and equipment serving the training of peacekeeping forces at a ceremony on August 28.

Hanoi (VNA) – The US governmenthanded over to Vietnam a training facility and equipment serving the trainingof peacekeeping forces at a ceremony on August 28.

The facility (named S5) has 15training rooms able to accommodate 600 learners at the same time, and a254-seat conference hall.

Meanwhile, the package ofequipment will be used for training in setting up a level-two field hospital bythe Vietnamese peacekeeping force, which is scheduled to run in Bentiu, SouthSudan, replacing the UK’s facility in the second quarter of 2018.

Deputy Minister of Defence NguyenChi Vinh said the Vietnam – US defence cooperation has strongly grown over thepast years, with the field of peacekeeping being a good example. He affirmedthat the equipment and facilities provided by the US and other nations willhelp turn the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre into a key facility for peacekeepingoperation and training in the country and region.

US Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osiusexpressed his belief that Vietnam will succeed in international peacekeepingactivities, adding that the nation has joined hands with the internationalcommunity in addressing global issues.-VNA
