US, Cambodia navies join joint naval exercise

Approximately 500 US Navy and 300 Royal Cambodian Navy personnel are participating in the five-day joint exercise..

The exercise focuses on enhancing maritime security skills throughactivities such as maritime interdiction, diving and salvage operations,maneuvering, and disaster response.

In addition, italso aims to increase cooperation and mutual understanding and buildtrust between the US and Cambodian navies.

Cambodia participated in the CARAT Cooperation Afloat Readiness andTraining exercise for the first time in 2010. Other CARAT participantsinclude Bangladesh , Brunei , Indonesia , Malaysia , Thailand ,Philippines , Singapore , and Timor- Leste.

Since 1995, the CARAT exercises have taken place annually in the Southeast Asia region.-VNA

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi

Indonesia's state-owned oil company Pertamina, along with foreign partners Sinopec from China and Kuwait’s Kufpec, has signed a contract to explore the Melati oil and gas block, located off the coast of Sulawesi. The block is estimated to contain trillions of cubic feet of gas reserves.
