US Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius toured the central province of Quang Tri on August 17 to examine local bomb and mine clearance.
He visited the province’s Database Unit (DBU), Legacy of War Coordination Centre (LWCC) and Mine Action Visitor Centre, and talked with foreign non-governmental partners about activities to support the locality in addressing war consequences.
The diplomat also visited the scene of several counter bomb and mine projects, funded by the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) and the Mines Advisory Group (MAG), in Cam Lo district, including a project to pilot the use of professional dogs to find bombs and mines.
On the day, the ambassador was received by Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chinh, who thanked the US government and embassy for supporting Quang Tri in bomb and mine disarmament.
Their efforts have produced positive results, such as decreases in the number of bomb and mine-related incidents and the area of land contaminated with unexploded ordnances (UXOs), Chinh added.
Chinh hoped for continued cooperation from the US embassy in this field.-VNA
