Hanoi (VNA) -The United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant HealthInspection Service (APHIS) has given permission to fresh mango fruit importsfrom Vietnam to the US, which will be effective from December 29.
According to the Vietnam News Agency Television (Vnews), after analysing thepotential plant pest risks, APHIS scientists determined that mangos from Vietnamcan be safely imported under a “systems approach”.
APHIS defines the systems approach as a series of measures taken by growers, packers and shippers that together minimise pest risks prior to import into theUnited States.
In this case, APHIS explained that the systems approach for mangos from Vietnamincluded orchard or packinghouse requirements, irradiation treatment and portof entry inspection, to protect against the introduction of plant pests anddiseases.
The agency is also requiring these mangos be imported in commercial shipmentsand accompanied by phystosanitary certificates verifying the fruit was producedunder these conditions. These certificates must include an additionaldeclaration stating the fruit was inspected and found free of black mango spots.-VNA
