Phnom Penh (VNA) – A Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument was inaugurated inBattambang province of Cambodia on July 27 after a period of upgrade.

The monumentfeatures the statues of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and Cambodia militantsprotecting a Cambodia mother who was holding her little child.

The upgradedmonument was inaugurated on the occasion of the 50th anniversary ofbilateral diplomatic ties and Vietnam’s 70th War Invalids andMartyrs’ Day.

Speaking atthe ceremony, Nhem Valy, Secretary of State at the Cambodia Ministry of Cultsand Religion and Acting Secretary General of the Solidarity Front for theDevelopment of Cambodian Motherland, emphasised that the Cambodian peoplealways bear in mind the support from the Vietnamese people to help theircountry escape from the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime.-VNA
