HCM City (VNS/VNA) - Universitieshave launched new majors to meet the demands of digital transformation in the4.0 industry era.
Dr Do Van Dung, Rector of the HCM CityUniversity of Technology and Education, said that 20 students this year wouldreceive free tuition in the new robot and artificial intelligence major thisyear.
Lecturers in mechanical engineering,electrical and electronic engineering, and information technology in theprogramme will give instruction in English.
Eligible students for the programme musthave outstanding marks at schools for gifted students or have a 24 score in theupcoming national high school graduation examination.
Recruitment demand related to robots,machine learning and artificial intelligence is expected to increase by 16 percentyear by year over the next few years.
The university has also launched a major intechnical infrastructure in construction. Dung said that graduates would learnhow to create a safe and convenient living environment, including how to saveenergy.
Two other majors, textile and garments andinternational business, will also begin this year at the university.
The Vietnam National University -HCM City (VNUHCM) plans to increase the number of programmes and majors forbachelor’s degrees to 197 this year from 189.
Its University of Social Sciencesand Humanities will have two new majors, information administration andVietnamese studies for Vietnamese students. It already offers a degree inVietnamese studies that accepts foreigners only.
The university plans to begin anew “high-quality” training programme in tourism management, while its Schoolof Medicine will set up maxillo-facial and nursing faculties.
VNUHCM’s branch in the MekongDelta province of Ben Tre will have three new faculties offering courses ininfrastructure work monitoring and maintenance, quality assurance and foodsafety, and renewable energy.
The HCM City Open University will enrollstudents in the new majors of marketing, economics and computer sciences, withthe latter two offering high-quality training programmes for their students.
The National Economics University will offerdigital business training in English, which will include courses in advancedapplications of IT and digital technology.
The Hanoi University will open two new majorsof multimedia communication and marketing with instruction in English thisyear. Pham Ngoc Thach, the university’s rector, said the major of multimediacommunication will also be launched.
The University of Science which is a member of theVietnam National University - Hanoi will open new majors related to Industry4.0. They include geospatial information science, biotechnology, digitaltechnology and physics.
According to the university, the geospatialinformation science major will meet increasing demand in sectors related toeducation, and state and enterprise administration.
The students in this field will study themanagement of environmental resources, geospatial applications, big data, artificialintelligence, and other subjects.-VNS/VNA
