Hanoi(VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang has called for united resolve and concerted efforts of the entire Party, army and people in realising six focal tasks set in the 12th Party Congress’s Resolution.

In an interview with the press on July 25 after he was elected State President at the first session of the 14th National Assembly, Tran Dai Quang highlighted socio-economic development as a central task and Party building as a key mission.

Other tasks include building Vietnamese culture and people, strengthening national defence and security, implementing strategic breakthroughs in tandem with reforming the growth model, streamlining administrative procedures and improving people’s spiritual and material life, especially those residing in remote, far-flung, border and island areas, and those in extremely difficult localities, and social policy beneficiaries.

As head of the Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reform, the President said the fight against corruption and wastefulness is an important, urgent, long-term and complicated task that requires the participation of the whole political system and population.

He underlined the need to step up communication work in order to raise public awareness of the issue and instill a strict attitude in society towards corruption as well as respect for the law.

Apart from judicial and administrative reforms, more attention should be paid to building and completing mechanisms, policies and laws, and correcting loopholes and faults made in socio-economic management, said the head of State.

Asked about Vietnam’s foreign policy in the time ahead, President Tran Dai Quang affirmed the Vietnamese Party and State’s consistent policy of protecting the country’s supreme interest on the basis of the fundamental principles of international law, equality and mutual benefit; proactively integrating into the world, maintaining a peaceful and favourable environment for national development.

The President and the Vice President will actively initiate programmes on foreign relations to contribute to effectuating the country’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, development, multilateralisation and diversification of realtions; active and proactive international integration and cooperation on the basis of mutually respecting independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, not intervening in other countries’ internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit.

Vietnam will also deepen relations with its neighbours, regional countries and world powers; enhance ties with traditional friends; expand partnerships with promising partners; and mobilise international support as well as external resources.

At the same time, foreign activities will be combined with national defence and security in a bid to raise Vietnam’s position and prestige in the world arena and contribute to fulfilling socio-economic development tasks and ensuring national defence and security and international integration, the President said.-VNA
