UNESCO values Vietnam’s contributions

Vietnam has made practical and concrete contributions to realising the mission of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the head of the UN agency said.

– Vietnam has madepractical and concrete contributions to realising the mission of the UnitedNations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the headof the UN agency said.

UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova madethe praise during her April 28 reception for President of Vietnam NationalCommission for UNESCO - Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung, who leads theVietnamese delegation to the 201st session of UNESCO Executive Boardin Paris from April 19- May 5.

Vietnam has always been among the leadingnations in implementing successful the programmes and activities of the UNagency, she said.

On the occasion, Trung expressed hispleasure at the growing cooperative relations between Vietnam and UNESCO,particularly in implementing the cooperation agreement jointly signed in 2015.

He affirmed that Vietnam will continueactively participating in the organisation’s activities, while expressing hishope for continued UNESCO’s support for Vietnam in education, science, cultureand information.

Trung expressed his thanks to Irina Bokova forher contribution to strengthening relations between Vietnam and UNESCO, andinvited Bokova to visit Vietnam to discuss measures to enhance bilateralcooperation.

The UNESCO Executive Board’s 201st session discussed implementation of UNESCO’s programmes and orientations, draftedplans and budgets for 2018-2021, and prepared for the 39th sessionof the General Conference slated for November.

Also during the session, the ExecutiveBoard interviewed nine candidates for the UNESCO General Director post for the tenure2017-2021. One of the candidates is Ambassador Pham Sanh Chau of Vietnam.

During the session’s meetings, DeputyForeign Minister Trung suggested UNESCO continue contributing to peacekeeping activitiesand tackling newly arising challenges such as increasing terrorist activitiesand extremism development.

Vietnam also called for strengthening connectionbetween the development agenda of the United Nations and UNESCO activities, andmore experience sharing in mobilizing resources for projects and programmes.-VNA
