The event inresponse to the World Environment Day (June 5) was organised by theMinistry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Vietnam Farmer’sAssociation and the Vietnam Association of the Elderly.
Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai said the national economicdevelopment path is based on efficiently utilising natural resources,fuel and energy.
Environmental protection has become a major challenge for the community, especially in rural areas and craft villages.
He called on individuals, organisations and businesses to makepractical contributions to protecting the environment towards naturalresource efficiency and sustainable development.
TheMinistry of Natural Resources and Environment called upon ministries,sectors and localities to promote consumption ofenvironmentally-friendly products and increase awareness-raisingcampaigns.
A ceremony was held in the province onJune 4 to present the Vietnam Environmental Awards 2015 to 50organisations and individuals in recognition of their activecontributions to environmental protection.
Accordingto the UNDP, humanity is consuming more than the Earth can provide.Many of the global ecosystems are reaching critical points of depletionor nearing irreversible changes fueled by economic development andpopulation growth.
If current consumption andproduction patterns remain and the population grows to its expectedfigure of 9.6 billion, three planets will be needed to sustain thecurrent ways of living and consumption by 2050.
The2015 World Environment Day themed “Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet.Consume with Care” aims to raise humankind’s awareness of responsiblemanagement of the planet’s natural resources.-VNA
