Statistics show that from August 2017, rising violenceforced about 740,000 Rohingya people from Rakhine state to flee to Bangladesh,raising the total number of Myanmar refugees in Bangladesh to more than900,000.
Earlier on August 20, the UN Refugee Agency and Bangladeshiauthorities consulted over 3,000 Rohingya from Myanmar to determine cases inneed of repatriation. It was the second effort to bring home Rohingya Muslimswho fled to Bangladesh two years ago. Many refused to return home due toconcern over violence in the homeland.
According to the UN World Food Programme (WFP), 80 percentof Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh totally rely on food provided by the WFP.
The UN relief agencies spend 24 million USD each month tooffer food relief to around 900,000 Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh./.
