Geneva (VNA) – United Nations High Commissionerfor Human Rights Michelle Bachelet on February 18 applauded the achievements Vietnamhas recently recorded in the field of human rights.
Ata reception for Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai, newly-accredited PermanentRepresentative of Vietnam to the UN, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and otherinternational organisations in Geneva, Bachelet highly valued Vietnam’s role inand cooperation with UN mechanisms.
Sheexpressed her hope that Vietnam will make more contributions to the UN HumanRights Council (UNHRC) and sustainable development goals in Vietnam and theregion, and bring into play its ASEAN Chairmanship to promote cooperationbetween the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and theAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Forher part, Mai said the Vietnamese Government appreciates Bachalet’s role andcontributions to human rights promotion and protection in the world.
Shebriefed the UN official on Vietnam’s priorities, policies and outstandingachievements in the sphere of human rights, and stressed the significance ofmultilateral cooperation in this regard.
Humanrights promotion and protection are major issues in Vietnam’s implementation ofits 2013 Constitution and socio-economic development policy, the ambassadoradded.
Theambassador pledged to make all-out efforts, together with the Vietnamesemission in Geneva and competent Vietnamese agencies, to make more contributionsat the UNHRC, join hands with the OHCHR and push ahead with cooperation betweenthe ASEAN and the OHCHR.
Maialso called for more collaboration and support from the UN High Commissionerand the OHCHR to Vietnam./.
