Hai Phong (VNA) - A tuberculosisprevention project was launched in the port city of Hai Phong on October 1 bythe city’s Department of Health.

Aiming to limit the incidenceof tuberculosis in the country to two inevery 100,000 persons by 2025,the project, entitled "Zero TB" (ZTB), willimplement a comprehensive model of care fortuberculosis patients in the three cities with the highest, average and lowest incidence oftuberculosis in the country.

They are Ho Chi Minh City (164/100,000), HaiPhong (101/100,000) and Hoi An (68/100,000), respectively, according to Dr LeVan Hoi, deputy director of the National Lung Hospital.

The project will intensify the screening for people who make directcontact with tuberculosis patients, improving the socialworkers’ capability and the quality of the diagnosis processes, as well asminimising the risks of recurrence, andexpanding the collaboration with the National TuberculosisControl Programme.

Within the periodbetween 2005 and 2015, Vietnamwas one of the few countries that was able toreduce the incidence oftuberculosis and deaths to below 50 percent of the total population.-VNA

Hanoi tightens control, prevention of monkeypox
