Hanoi (VNA) – US President Donald Trump called Presidentof the Republic of Korea (RoK) Moon Jae-in from on board his Air Force One onFebruary 28 to brief the RoK leader on the outcomes of the DPRK-USA HanoiSummit Vietnam, which ended the same day.
The RoK’s presidential office, known as the Blue House, had saidearlier in a statement that the summit made “more meaningful progress thanever”.
It noted that Trump’s willingness to continue dialogue wouldbrighten prospects for another meeting between him and leader of the DemocraticPeople’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un.
Speaking at a press conference after the second DPRK-USsummit and before departing Hanoi the same day, the US President said noagreement has been reached on the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula. Accordingto him, the main obstacle in negotiations was that the DPRK wanted a fullremoval of the sanctions, but the US was not keen to meet such a demand.
However, Kim committed to not carrying out nuclear andmissile tests in a reiterated show of his goodwill toward the denuclearisation.
Trump also said both sides exchanged views on various issuesand had a productive time, and they left the meeting in a friendly atmosphere.–VNA
