TPP negotiators to meet in Japan next week

Negotiators from the 11 remaining signatories to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade pact will hold a three-day meeting near Tokyo next week in pursuit of an agreement by November, the Japanese government said on October 24.
Tokyo(VNA) - Negotiators from the 11 remaining signatories to the Trans-PacificPartnership (TPP) trade pact will hold a three-day meeting near Tokyo next weekin pursuit of an agreement by November, the Japanese government said on October24.

Japan’s Kyodo newsagency quoted Toshimitsu Motegi, Japanese economic revitalization minister whois in charge of the TPP trade negotiations for Japan, as saying that themeeting will take place from October 30 in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture, east ofTokyo.

With the withdrawalof the United States early this year having prompted proposals to amend orfreeze parts of the pact, the 11 countries are aiming to reach a deal in timefor the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum summit starting November 10 inVietnam.

The TPP was signed in February 2016 by Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile,Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States andVietnam, covering around 40 percent of the global economy before Washington'swithdrawal earlier this year.-VNA
