Tourist arrivals inthe country last year gained 24.71 million, declining from the yearearlier by 6.93 percent. However, in the first quarter of this year thevolume number is projected to reach 7.55 million, said Ittirit Kinglek,President of Thai Tourism Council (TCT).
He added that thisyear’s overall arrivals could reach 28.36 million, gaining about 1.29trillion THB from foreign travellers and 800 billion THB locally. Theprojection is viable given that the tourism industry is expandingwithout any disruption, with the contribution of growing Chinesevisitors as a key role in achieving the target.
However, he said afall in the number of European visitors could pose threat to the 2015tourism performance as well as the global economy.
Other factorsinclude the fluctuations in the local and international economy, politics, and the integration of the ASEAN Economic Community.-VNA
