The report was quoted by MCOT assaying that Thai tourism businesses had already hit the bottom and thosein Bangkok was affected most during the political unrest whichlasted until the military takeover on May 22.
Average daily arrivals during the unrest at Suvarnabhumi Airportdropped from about 42,000 in January this year to approximately 20,000in late May. The number of visitors rebounded to 42,500 by mid-Augustafter the military curfew was lifted on June 13, the report said.
The tourism sector is expected to recover from August as the politicalsituation has returned to normal and the martial law will be liftedsoon.
The campaigns being launched by the TourismAuthority of Thailand plus the waiving of visa fee for Chinese andTaiwanese tourists between August and October will help boost thepurchasing power of more than 1.2 billion THB for these tourists.-VNA
