HCM City (VNA) - The Top Thai Brands 2020 expo opened atthe Sai Gon Exhibition and Convention Centre in Ho Chi Minh City on September17.

The four-day expo is displaying and selling a range of quality productsfrom Thailand, including food and beverages, household products, textiles andgarments, and health and beauty products, among others. Exhibitors are also seekingpartners for trade and network expansion.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Nguyen Quang Huy, Deputy Director ofthe Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Agency for Southern Affairs, said Vietnamand Thailand have long established a traditional friendship, particularly ininvestment and trade.

Their bilateral cooperation has grown fruitfully in almost all fields overrecent years, he noted, adding that Vietnam considers Thailand a strategicpartner in realising its sustainable development goals.

The two countries’ investment and trade promotion agencies will continueto bolster programmes facilitating transactions between business communities,he said.

According to Director of the Thai Department of International TradePromotion (DITP)’s HCM City Office Suparporn Sookmark, Vietnam - Thailand tradehas maintained growth despite COVID-19. In the first half of this year,Thailand channelled 1.58 billion USD worth of FDI into Vietnam, making it thesecond-largest foreign investor in the country. The two nations have set a goalof raising bilateral trade turnover to 20 billion USD this year.

She said Thailand wishes to be a trustworthy economic partner of Vietnamand is committed to boosting bilateral trade.

A similar event took place in the capital city of Hanoi in July.

Thailand is Vietnam’s largest trading partner in ASEAN, with bilateraltrade exceeding 17 billion USD in 2019./.
