Bangkok (VNA) – Minister of Public Security To Lam has proposed Thai PrimeMinister Prayut Chan-ocha instruct relevant bodies to accelerate the signing ofan agreement on criminal extradition as a legal foundation for the twocountries’ law enforcement forces.

Lam made the proposal at a meeting with the Thai Prime Minister during hisvisit to Thailand to attend the first high-level dialogue between theVietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Thai Royal Police in Bangkok onDecember 19.

PM Prayut Chan-ocha descrined the Vietnamese official’s trip as a contributionto boosting the relationship between the two countries in general and betweentheir security agencies in particular.

Minister Lamaffirmed that Vietnam considers Thailand an important partner in ASEAN. He alsospoke highly of the role and position of Thailand in the formation anddevelopment of the ASEAN Community in the context of complicated developmentsin the region and the world, including those related to trans-national and drugcrimes, human trafficking, water security, and maritime security and safety.

At this dialogue, the two sides planned to discuss collaboration between thetwo countries’ security forces in preventing trans-national, drug, andenvironmental crimes, he revealed.

He emphasised the need to enhance cooperation in developing, manage and useMekong water sustainably and effectively for the common interests of theriver’s lower area.

Minister Lam also urged the Thai PM to continue creating conditions for hisministry to further effective affiliations with Thailand’s relevant agencies inall fields, contributing to ensuring security and order in each nation.

Earlier, the Vietnamese delegation paid respect to late Thai King BhumibolAdulyadej.

The same day, Minister Lam visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand andattended a ceremony to launch air routes between Vietnam and Thailand operatedby low-cost airline VietJet Air.-VNA
