Ha Giang (VNA) – Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi KimNgan presented gifts and extended warm Tet greetings to officers and soldiersat the Lung Cu Border Guard Station in the northern mountainous province of HaGiang on January 27.

Lauding efforts made by the soldiers, the top legislator said that they haveovercome challenges to fulfil assigned political tasks as well as promotepeople-to-people diplomacy, contributing to building a borderline of peace,friendship and cooperation for mutual development.

They also have participated in developing local socio-economy and maintainingpolitical security and social order in the border area, she added.

Ngan asked the station to further its work to safeguard border security and nationalsovereignty, while taking care of ethnic minority people, policy beneficiariesand impoverished households to ensure that they will have a warm Tet holiday.

The same day, she delivered Tet gifts to soldiers of the border guard station atthe Thanh Thuy border gate and five border communes in Vi Xuyen district,including Thanh Thuy, Thanh Duc, Lao Chai, Xin Chai and Minh Tan.

Managing over 32 kilometres of border lines with 50 border markers, soldiersand officers at Thanh Thuy border guard station have successfully fulfilled theirmissions, Ngan said, adding that as the border area houses many disadvantagedfamilies, the soldiers should join hands with local authorities to give timelysupport to them.

In 2017, the border guards forces spent 12.5 billion VND (550,000 USD) on presenting10,000 gifts and building 35 houses valued at 2.5 billion VND (USD) as well asproviding medical check-ups for the needy. This year, the guards plan to offer20,000 gifts, 40 houses and 100 breeding cows to disadvantaged people.

Later the same day, Chairwoman Ngan attended an art performance programmecalled “Xuan bien phong am long dan ban” (warm spring in border areas forethnic people) at the Thanh Thuy Border Guard Station.

On the occasion, she wished Ha Giang people a new year of happiness, health andprosperity while expressing her delights that such art performances will bring joyfulnessto people in 44 border provinces across the country. - VNA
