Hanoi (VNA)– The upcoming visit to Vietnam by Lao Party GeneralSecretary and State President Thongloun Sisoulith is of great significance,reaffirming the stance of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party in continuing tomaintain, nurture and promote the great friendship, special solidarity andcomprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples, LaoAmbassador to Vietnam Sengphet Houngbounnuang has stated.

Talking to the media on the threshold of the officialfriendship visit from June 28-29, the ambassador noted that this is the firstforeign trip by Sisoulith after he was elected to his positions.

The visit also aims to implement Laos’ consistent foreignpolicy of preserving and promoting the special collaboration between Laos andVietnam, and reflects the special relationship of the two countries, he added.

Over the past time, despite complicated and unpredictabledevelopments of the regional and international situations, the two countrieshave actively coordinated in and organised the implementation of cooperative agreementsand plans, which has brought about substantive results in all areas.

Political relations continue to be strengthened, defence -security and diplomatic cooperation remains one of the most important pillarsin the bilateral relationship, and cooperation in economics, culture, healthcare, and science - technology has made positive changes, he stated.

The Lao diplomat suggested the two Parties, States andpeoples intensify cooperation and promote the tradition of special solidarityand comprehensive cooperation, support each other, and continue to carry out therevolutionary cause towards the goal of socialism.

According to him, in the coming time, the bilateral cooperationshould focus on the priorities of continuing to strengthen cooperation inpolitics, defence - security and foreign affairs, raising the common awarenessof the two Parties, States and peoples of the strategic importance of thespecial relationship between Laos and Vietnam.

The diplomat also highlighted the mutual support in thefight against the COVID-19 pandemic between the two nations, affirming that theexchange of experience between adelegation of Vietnamese medical experts and Lao doctors and nurses has helpedLaos basically control the pandemic./.
