Hanoi (VNA) – Export earnings from timber and wooden furniture reached7.3 billion USD in 2016, a year-on-year rise of 1 percent, reported theMinistry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Nguyen BaNgai, Deputy Head of the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, said the exportvalue of wooden furniture and other forestry products increased by between 5-10percent.
Wood chipremained a key staple in 2016, with China being the biggest importer of theproduct from Vietnam.
Vietnam’swood chip is currently facing fiercer competition from the similar product of Thailand,Australia and African countries.
To improvethe quality and ensure the supply of materials, Vietnam has increased forestareas.
Accordingto the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, the country’s total area of timberforests now exceeds 127,700 hectares.-VNA
