Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – The central province of Thua Thien-Hue is givinga push to a project to improve the water environment in the former imperialcity of Hue, which has struggled to hit targets.
The 4.2 trillion VND (188.3 million USD) project, funded by the Japan InternationalCooperation Agency, has six construction packages. However, only two have beencompleted. Four others are underway, however they should have been finished in2016.
Further, construction work in 11 wards in the south of the Huong River hasgreatly impacted local livelihoods.
The provincial People’s Committee demanded more effective operation from theproject’s management board. Contractors were asked to reset detailed progressfor the project and to speed up package deals.
Stiff punishments will be given for any violations of contracts whiledifficulties must be tackled in a timely manner.
Construction units must pay attention to ensuring works’ quality, constructionand traffic safety and environment hygiene. They were requested to work withHue city People’s Committee, the local Department of Planning and Investmentand relevant authorities to supervise the project.
The head of the project’s steering board was directed to work with contractorsand banks during contract payments to ensure the capital is used for the rightpurposes.-VNA
