Three IVF babies born in Thai Nguyen

Three babies conceived via in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) in the northern province of Thai Nguyen were born on December 4, Hospital A’s director Do Minh Thinh said.

ThaiNguyen (VNA) - Three babies conceived via in-vitro fertilisation(IVF) in the northern province of Thai Nguyen were born on December 4, HospitalA’s director Do Minh Thinh said.

Thesurgery took about one hour and was performed by Deputy Minister of Health Dr NguyenViet Tien and Thinh, with assistance from the nursing staff.

Thefirst baby was born to Chu Thi Huyen, a resident of Dai Tu district’s Khoi Ky commune,while Tran Thi Dien from Ky Phu Commune had twins.

Thiswas the first time that a hospital in the province successfully conducted IVFprocedures and delivered babies. The IVF procedures were done in March, Thinh said.

Itwas a milestone for the hospital staff and would give hopes to thousands ofmarried couples in the region who had been unable to conceive naturally,according to the hospital director.

Thehospital’s reproductive support unit was set up last June and was the first fora dozen of northern mountainous provinces that offers assisted reproduction, Thinhsaid.-VNA
