Hanoi (VNA) – The Indonesian military has taken disciplinary actionagainst three of its members after their spouses raised doubt on social mediaover attack on October 10 in Banten on Chief Security Minister Wiranto by anIslamic militant.
Chief of staff of the Indonesian Army Gen. Andika Perkasa said on October 11that Col. Hendi Suhendi, who headed the Kendari Military District Command inSoutheast Sulawesi, and Sgt. Z. of the Horse Calvalry Batalion in Bandung, WestJava, had been demoted and would be detained for 14 days by the MilitaryPolice.
He added that their wives would be reported to police for violating theElectronic Information and Transactions Law.
The same time, the Indonesian Force posted an announcement on its officialwebsite stating that it had removed Chief Warrant Office Y.N.S, a member of theMilitary Police stationed at Muljono Air Force Base in Surabaya, East Java,from his post after his wife, spread negative content on social media.
In a Facebook posting on October 10, the officer’s wife questioned whether theattack on Wiranto may have been staged to distract the public before theinauguration of President Joko Widodo for second term on October 20.
The Air Force has reported her to the Sidoarjo Police for spreading hate speechand false information.
Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said earlier this year that about 3 percentof the country’s military personnel may have been radicalised based onreligion./.
