Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand has detected signs onsocial media of intent to provoke a public disturbance during the week of thefuneral for late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Army Chief General Chalermchai Sitthisart saidon October 2 that those seeking to provoke disturbance were in fact the samegroup of people who were accused of having violated the Kingdom’s lese majestelaw and subsequently fled the country.
He stressed that there would be nothing to worryabout but people should keep their eyes open for anyone with ill intent.
The funeral of the late monarch was the mostsignificant event of the country, he said, adding that officers would continueto take care of security issues, especially in and around the funeralcompound.
King Bhumibol Abdulyadej passed away on October13, 2016, at the age of 88 after nearly seven decades of reigning Thailand.
The official coronation of King MahaVajiralongkorn will be held after the late King’s cremation, slated for October26.-VNA
