Bangkok (VNA) – The Thai Government is calling onthe International Friendship Exchange Council of Japan (FEC), a non-profitorganisation with 1,000 corporate and individual members, to help promotetourism in Thailand’s secondary destinations.
According to local media, Deputy Prime Minister SomkidJatusripitak recently met with Norio Yamaguchi, chairman of the FEC's Japan-ASEANCultural and Economic Exchange Committee, to discuss such matter.
The Deputy PM said the Thai government is willing to support the launching of new airroutes linking Thai lesser-known provinces with Japan.
He stated the Thai Government has been promotingtourism in 55 provinces with underdeveloped tourism to help locals increaseincome, as they offer high potential to develop the sector.
According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the country welcomed38.27 million visitors last year, up 7.5 percent from 2017. The number oftourists to Thailand is projected to grow by 7.5 percent to 41.1 million in2019, generating some 2.2 trillion THB (nearly 70.2 billion USD).-VNA
