- TheSocial Development and Human Security Ministry of Thailand is crafting a newmaster plan for elderly care in the context the country is forecast to have anageing society by 2025.

Social Development and Human Security Minister JutiKrairiksh said to the press he would speed up the drafting of a new master planfor elderly care and submit it for the Cabinet’s approval within a month duringhis recent visit to the Ban Bang Kae home for the elderly.

In drafting the master plan and subsequent operation plans, the SocialDevelopment and Human Security Ministry would take the results of research andopinion surveys undertaken conducted by various agencies into account, Jutisaid.

He added that the ministry would also hold workshops for representatives of allsectors on how to provide the best care for the elderly.

He was quoted as saying that “The policy on the elderly cannot merely be apolicy from the government or a minister. It must be the policy of all the peoplein the country”.

Over 10 percent of Thailand’s population was elderly people in 2007. The rate roseto 14.2 percent in 2015 and is predicted to hit 21.2 percent by 2025.-VNA
