Bangkok (VNA) – The Thai cabinet on October6 approved the holding of provincial administration organisation(PAO) elections in December, as proposed by the Election Commission (EC).
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-chasaid the EC proposal correspondedwith government policy regarding local elections, which had been delayed formany reasons, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
He addedthat the actual election date and timeline for the procedures will beannounced by the EC.
Local media quoted PM Prayut as saying that he wanted all local elections be just, transparent andfree of fraud, so good people would get to run local administrations.
The PM also said other kinds of local elections will graduallyfollow, with allocations from the 2020 budget, referring to elections for tambon administrationorganisations, municipalities and special administrative areas such asmetropolitan Bangkok and Pattaya city./.
