Minister Siriwat Kajornprasart revealed that the planincludes closer collaboration between the Department of Fisheries (DoF)and the Fish Marketing Organisation (FMO).
The FMO will become atrade centre for fishery products, facilitating fishermen andoverseeing services offered by marine piers. The DoF will meanwhile seethat seafood products maintain international standards in accordancewith other global markets.
The highlight of the plan includestransforming the Bangkok branch of the FMO into a central market forquality marine products which are targeted at providing supplies tosupermarket chains, restaurants and hotels.
Currently, theorganisation suffers from an annual revenue loss of 2 million THB. Theministry plans to promote local seafood products at trade shows and tosupply the Corrections Department with their goods in order to boostincome. They expect to raise the annual income to up to 10 million bahtper year.-VNA
