Thailand tightens security in border area with Malaysia

Thailand has begun tightening security in its border area with Malaysia since November 16 due to concerns over the risk of extreme Islamic terrorists penetrating into the country.

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand has begun tightening security in its border area with Malaysia since November 16 due to concerns over the risk of extreme Islamic terrorists penetrating into the country to stage terrorist attacks.

Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Prawit Wongsuwan said after chairing a security meeting that there are IS members in that zone.

Prawit Wongsuwan also instructed commanders of the army and the police to increase measures in order to prevent and remove all terrorist threats from the beginning.

He also called on people to cooperate with security agencies and report to authorities all abnormal events or actions that may pose threats to security.

Earlier, Thailand’s immigration police was ordered to increase appropriate measures in airports, border gates to spot all abnormal actions from foreign immigrants.

Since after terrorist attacks on August 17 in Bangkok killing 20 people and injuring more than 100 others, Thailand has intensified measures to control security in key areas, tourist destinations with a lot of foreign tourists and embassies.-VNA
