Thailand sees surge in imports of luxury and beauty products

Thailand’s imports of luxury and beauty products, such as brand-name bags, fillers and Botox, in the first half of the 2023 fiscal year, which began on October 2, 2022, increased by 40% year on year, according to the country’s Customs Department.

Bangkok (VNA) - Thailand’s imports of luxury and beauty products,such as brand-name bags, fillers and Botox, in the first half of the 2023fiscal year, which began on October 2, 2022, increased by 40% year on year, accordingto the country’s Customs Department.

This rise reflected positive economic sentiment, theincreasing purchasing power of consumers and a rebound in tourism.

According to Panthong Loykulnan, the department’s deputydirector-general, collection of import taxes by the department for the periodincreased by 67.3 billion THB (1.97 billion USD), or 27.7%, compared to thesame period a year ago.

He also said that the department has instructed officials atall ports of entry to tighten up checks on the import of chemicals which can beused as precursors in the production of illegal narcotics and to make sure thatthe importers are credible and that the chemicals are to be used legally./.
