Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand sees positive progress in its fight against theCOVID-19 as it recorded only one new case in the two consecutive days on May 5and 6 – the lowest number since March 9.
At the end of May 6, the country confirmed2,989 infections, including 55 fatalities. Of the total, 2,761 patients have fullyrecovered.
Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha saidthat his country is considering the next step to loosen lockdown restrictionsimposed to curb the spread of the SARS-CoV-2. The first step has been appliedsince May 3.
However, he mentioned the possibility tolimit the number of people entering commercial centres at a certain time, andallow them to shop within 2 hours.
As the COVID-19 situation in the countryappears to have been brought under control now, the Office of Basic EducationCommission (OBEC) has decided to let each school decide whether they shouldreopen on July 1 or opt to use distance-learning television and onlinelearning.
Schools wishing to open must first seekpermission from their provincial governors. If the risk of COVID-19 is very lowin their area, normal classes may be possible.
According to Education Minister NatapholTeepsuwan, some outdoor and extracurricular activities will also be temporarilybanned to eliminate the chance of viral transmission./.
